Freedom Comes From Within

S

Top: Roxy c/o The Arc Factory   |   Blazer: Mink Pink & House of Harlow Triangle Collar @ Market HQ
Long triangle: Recreational   |   Headband: Made by me

I'm feeling so much more creative lately.
(Note the home-made headband with skull hair-tie detail... clearly the work of a creative genius)

I think I have that 'seasonal depression' thing - where grey days make you feel grey and the sun makes you happy. Or is that just everyone??

We found this bright orange hallway in the back alley to my fave local coffee haunt Bay 88, which even though I get my morning kick there about 4 times a week I've never actually noticed...Could this whole thing be any more streets of Mexico?!

So, I've made a new new year's resolution- to open my eyes more, to listen more, to look deeper, to never say never and find the freedom in all things.

Fashion Sketches & My Personal Croquis

S

I just came across the original sketches for the MojoMade Summer '11 Capsule Collection that I designed for Azuki last year - thought I'd share a little fashion design from my folio :) These are my fave every day kinda pieces - simple layers and silhouettes.

This little croquis has been good to me over the past few years and I use her for all of my design sketches. She's got some serious attitude and sass, a mysterious pout, loves a messy top knot and has killer legs (and clearly LOVES that cross necklace haha). Starting with pencil and paper then scanned into my Mac, I layer colours, textures and materials for final designs via Photoshop.

Going through all this old design stuff feels like reading a diary entry from a year ago... Makes me realize how much I've grown in every aspect of my life. There's nothing like a good spring clean out to get you re-energized!!

Question for you...
What are you cleaning out of your life's closet this spring?

PS - Please don't steal my original design sketches x

Neon Clash of the Licorice All-Sort Kind

S

Shirt: Sportsgirl   |   Blazer: Staple The Label @ Market HQ   |   Chain Glove: MojoMade - available online here

I've been dreaming of the day when I could wear bright, neon, clashing colours and not feel like a candy shop - though I'll admit, a pair of black pants with this outfit would have made me a walking licorice-all-sort.. Hence my new style mantra was born...

"If the pants make you look like a walking idiot - opt for no pants."

I can hear my mum's voice in the back of my mind uttering some kind of old saying like "pink and green should never be seen"...  But finally - the day of the clashing colours, clashing prints and splashes of neon and tie-day are back in all their glory! All hail to the Rainbow Brite's out there walking the streets, avenging the dull greys of the world!

Although the neon trend has been growing and buzzing for quite a while now, I wanted to find the right combination of pieces before unleashing it's brazen assault on any onlooker's eye... I don't want anyone getting dizzy or vomiting from seeing all this fabulous clash. I've had this Sportsgirl shirt for quite a while now and bought a size too big so I could get away with it as both a shirt and a shirt-dress... I hadn't found the way to really make it pop, until this ridiculously gorgeous washed silk, neon pink blazer from Staple The Label came into my life.

The only risk you run with these bold statement pieces is over-wearing them... I mean, no one gonna forget a hot pink blazer walking in the room no matter how many different things you wear it with. Have a look at some more amazing Staple The Label pieces at my fave online store Market HQ.

PS. When I was looking for an image of licorice all sorts, I found a divine recipe for Licorice All-Sort Slice on Taste.com.au - Let me know if you make it I'll be trying it out soon!

My Online Store is Open!

S

Finally... My new online store is OPEN!
I'm excited to announce the soft launch of my label MojoMade with a little "teaser collection" of t-shirts. As the first look into a bigger project that's getting it's creative chops ready behind the curtains here - I wanna let you backstage for a quick peek...

It all began with a pencil, some paper, red wine, and an endless supply of great vinyls to listen to and inspire... Then came the scizzors, splashes of colour and a now-well-worn ideas scrapbook... Fast forward a few months and the illustrations have made their way onto hand-cut t-shirts, individually dyed in a range of ombre-tie-dye colours...

I love the idea of unique things... So each t-shirt is hand-dyed for you when you place your order and because of this, no two designs will ever be the same. For that reason it's a limited edition project that I hope you'll enjoy being a part of :)

Find more and how you can get your own hand-tie-dyed tank @ http://mojomade.bigcartel.com

Made for you by me, it's MojoMade.

Last Thursday night in the back streets of Sydney, a bunch of people braved the cold to pack the Backroom to capacity and see what all this MojoMade stuff is about. I launched a teaser collection of MojoMade t-shirts as a sneak peek of what's to come from my label in summer 2012/13.

So what IS this MojoMade stuff about?
In the blog world - you know this is MojoMade - I treat it as a place for all of my creative crap to land as it comes together... Kinda like a backstage pass to the amalgamation of my music, fashion and art projects. Outside of this little corner of the blog-o-sphere I'm gigging and designing fashion... and finding any excuse for a party :) So Thursday night's soft launch was a sneak peek... New music with my band (video's to come!) and 3 designs slapped on MojoMade t-shirts. I hand-dyed the tees individually so no two are the same and each comes with a free download of my song Devil's in the Detail.

It was a killer excuse for a party with Bacardi Oakheart supplying the drinks, Barrio Chino and Bay88 supplying the food and gifts galore from a host of generous peeps - but I'll save that for another blogpost! Thank you all for coming and hangin' with us for a night, can't wait to bring you more xx

THE LUCKY PEEP'S TO WIN THE MOJOMADE CHECK-IN GIFTS ARE...
